What a membership gets you
A membership unlocks reading and replying to messages, plus a few features that show who's interested in you. Everything else is free.
| Feature | Free account | Membership |
|---|---|---|
| Join, profile, browse | Yes | Yes |
| Read and reply to messages | No | Yes |
| See who liked or viewed you | No | Yes |
| Read receipts, full-size photos | No | Yes |
Free accounts also see adverts. Optional extras, such as profile boosts and an ID-verified badge, are paid for separately. How each part works in practice is on how it works.
Before you pay
The members area shows each plan's price before you confirm, so read the payment screen properly. Three things worth checking:
- What the plan renews at. If you pick an introductory or trial offer, look at what it rolls on to and when.
- The currency. If the price isn't shown in pounds, your card provider may add a foreign transaction fee on top.
- Whether you need it yet. If you're still browsing and haven't found anyone you want to message, there's no rush. Our beginner's guide suggests looking around first.
How renewal works
Memberships renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. That's convenient if you're enjoying it and easy to forget if you're not. If you're only trying it out, set a reminder on your phone for a day or two before the renewal date.
How to cancel, and how to leave completely
Cancelling stops the next payment; deleting your account removes your profile. They're separate steps, and most people who want to leave need both.
- Log in at the members area.
- Go to Settings > Billing and cancel your membership.
- If you want to leave altogether, tap your avatar, then Settings > Delete Account.
| Item | Cancel | Delete account |
|---|---|---|
| Where | Settings > Billing | Avatar > Settings > Delete Account |
| Stops future payments | Yes | Cancel first to be sure |
| Removes your profile | No | Yes |
Refunds
Refunds are limited. Under the platform's terms, a pro-rata refund is only considered when at least 40% of the period you paid for is still unused. The members area terms have the current wording, and refund requests go through the members help centre.
A charge you don't recognise
Payments appear under the billing name shown at checkout, which may not be the name of this site. If you spot a charge you don't recognise:
- Check your email for a sign-up or payment receipt.
- Ask anyone who uses your card whether they've joined.
- If it's yours, cancel in Settings > Billing and contact the help centre about it.
- If nobody you know made it, call your bank on the number on your card.
The essentials are also on our key facts page.
Questions people ask
Will it renew automatically?
Yes. Memberships renew at the end of each period until you cancel in Settings > Billing, and cancelling stops the next payment. If you're only trying it out, set a phone reminder for a day or two before the renewal date, so you can decide calmly whether to carry on rather than noticing the charge afterwards.
What will I see on my bank statement?
The billing name shown at checkout, which may not be the name of this site. Check it on the payment screen before you confirm and make a note of it. That way, if you see the charge later, you'll recognise it rather than worrying it's something you didn't sign up for.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are limited. The platform's terms only consider a pro-rata refund when at least 40% of the period you paid for is still unused, so a request soon after paying has a better chance than one near the end. Check the members area terms for the current wording, and send any request through the members help centre.
Do I have to pay to use the site at all?
No. You can join, build a profile and browse for as long as you like without paying anything. A membership is only needed to read and reply to messages and to use a few extra features, such as seeing who has viewed or liked you. Optional extras like profile boosts are separate and nobody needs them to start.
